ADAM Audio Sub15 Subwoofer

ADAM Audio Sub15 Subwoofer

The ADAM Audio Sub15 is an extremely powerful, 1000-watt, 15" subwoofer capable of extending the frequency range of main and midfield monitors down to 20Hz.

If you spend a major concentration your time plumbing the depths of audio in bass-oriented music, such as hip-hop and R&B, or film post, where thunderous effects, orchestral score, and dialog have to peacefully co-exist, the powerful ADAM Sub15 gives you 1,000 watts of low-frequency extension down to 20Hz—great for large control rooms and equally large productions. The ADAM Sub15 features a sturdy 15" woofer made of an exceptionally rigid aluminum membrane. Why aluminum you ask? A 15-inch woofer has to overcome more inertia than smaller cones in order to respond quickly to transient information. The Sub15 is driven by two powerful magnets and a 4" (100 mm) voice coil. The Sub15’s inertia busting power assist comes from a highly efficient PWM (pulse-width modulation) amplifier that pumps 1000 watts (RMS) of power into the Sub15’s driver with an efficiency factor of nearly 90%. With these performance features, the Sub15 is easily capable of handling critical musical passages with intense and sudden bass peaks without showing signs of distortion or overheating.

ADAM Audio Sub15—Just the Facts:

  • 15" subwoofer (aluminum)
  • Amplifier power RMS/Music, 1000W/1200W
  • Frequency response of 20Hz-150Hz
  • Maximum SPL 120dB
  • Additional sub output enables dual sub system

ADAM Audio Sub15—Behind the Grille

15" aluminum driver

The Sub15 combines excellent transient response capability, thanks to its light-weight aluminum driver, with impressive low-frequency performance to enable a genuinely musical reproduction experience. With a high and undistorted sound pressure output of 120dB maximum SPL at one meter (3 ft.), the Sub15 makes the perfect subwoofer for mid-sized and larger control rooms.

A downward-firing bass-reflex port has been specially designed with ample dimensions and rounded edges to cancel any port noise that could compromise playback. Best of all, with an ADAM Sub15 working in concert with your monitor system, you get all the low-frequency information you need to make informed mix decisions. Plus, if you do decide that you want to pin your clients to the back wall, you can.

PWM custom amplifier

PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) also known as Class D amplification or switching amp technology, converts the incoming signal to a series of rectangular waveforms of equal height. The width of the rectangles varies in time and represents the musical signal. This waveform can be amplified much more simply, as the transistors are used as switches that only turn the power supply voltage on and off.

Advantages of PWM

The main advantage of PWM amplifiers is their extremely high efficiency (>90%). As a consequence the heat to be dissipated is only one-fifth of earlier designs, leading to much lower temperatures within the amps and making the use of heat sinks unnecessary. The ADAM units use a proprietary technology for both the amp and the power supply section (i.e. no more transformers) combined with state-of-the-art input and filter sections to achieve the best in multi-channel active monitoring.

Room-compensation controls and I/O

In order to adjust the sound of the Sub15 to different room situations or individual taste, the Sub15 has several controls including one for volume (-60dB to +6dB) and one for the crossover frequency (50Hz – 150Hz). The satellite speakers can either be driven full range or high-pass filtered at 85Hz. This allows the Sub15 to be easily integrated into a Dolby surround setup. Unfavorable phase relationships between the satellites and the subwoofer, particularly in the crossover frequency range, can be easily controlled with the rear-panel phase-reverse switch.

The Sub15 is also very flexible when it comes to connectivity: There are balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) Left/Right input/output connectors to be found on the rear of the subwoofer, plus an additional output enables a dual subwoofer array.
