The 545 Optical Disrupter is an optical compressor which creates an asymmetrical waveform as it compresses low frequencies. The result is smooth second-order harmonic distortion without clipping and the consequent harshness.
Whereas the entire signal is compressed, the top half of the waveform slopes as compression is increased. Compression occurs, but distortion is the primary function. Consequently the expense of a gain reduction meter has been omitted, and a simple LED shows the action by glowing brighter as disruption increases. Simply apply the amount of distortion desired and consider compression the natural by-product.
