The Sontronics STC-6 is a handheld condenser microphone for live performance with 75Hz high-pass filter and -10dB pad that’s built to handle the rigors of the road while delivering studio-quality sound.

It’s become a fairly common practice for singers to want their studio sound in live performance, which is why the late Roger Nichols had shootouts of boutique preamps prior to each Steely Dan tour. However, a singer might find it difficult and somewhat irresponsible to cavort around the stage with a $30,000 vintage tube mic that weights a few pounds. To solve this conundrum, Sontronics has introduced the STC-6, a roadworthy handheld condenser mic that will give you the same results onstage that you would get in the studio. The STC-6 sports a hand-finished, studio-grade, gold-sputtered cardioid capsule within a shielded grille that delivers a crystal-clear performance. It also features a highly directional cardioid polar pattern that provides greater rejection from the sides and rear, for vocals that can cut through a loud and busy stage mix.

Sontronics STC-6 Handled Condenser-Behind the Grille

Being more sensitive than a dynamic microphone, the STC-6 captures your voice or other instruments in significantly more detail, giving the kind of clarity and definition that you'd normally only expect to hear from a studio mic. Its extremely tight cardioid pattern has incredible side rejection, reducing the sound entering the side of the capsule (especially important on stage) for higher gain before feedback, and helps to create a crystal-clear image throughout the frequency spectrum.

The STC-6’s 7/8" (22mm) capsule sits in a shock-mounted cradle to help reduce handling noise (essential for such delicate, sensitive equipment) while the radial grooves in the body help performers maintain grip in the most demanding of situations. For added reliability, the tip of the STC-6's electrode post (that connects the electronics of the microphones to the underside of the capsule) is spiked to assist in preventing any oxidation and to provide positive pressure to the capsule electrode at all times.

Recessed switches on the rear of the mic offer a 75Hz high-pass filter to help reduce stage rumble when the microphone is on a stand and a -10dB pad that helps to reduce the possibility of overload and distortion when recording very loud sound sources.

The Sontronics STC-6 comes in a high-quality, tough yet light aluminum carry case and includes a mic clip and thread adaptor. Like all Sontronics mics, the STC-6 is covered by a lifetime warranty.

What the pros are saying about the Sontronics STC-6

"Well balanced tone with plenty of low end and clear, airy top end. Sounds exceptionally good, especially considering its price." - Paul White, performing musician

"An extremely thoughtfully designed vocal mic that gives the same amount of detail on stage as you'd expect to find in a studio condenser costing many times more" - Mark Joseph, singer-songwriter
